Artist Statement:

Spring 2009 is a series depicting the deterioration of the artist’s mental state during a period of her life that resulted in her being hospitalised for severe mental health issues. Each image exists both as a standalone piece while also contributing to the overall narrative. All of this played out during a time in which “normality” was an increasingly fluid and elusive concept, slipping further and further out of reach, almost to the point of disappearing entirely. What transpired almost a decade ago remains invisible, leaving no physical traces to be seen by outside observers but, as ever, the scars of such a struggle remain branded within; kept secret, kept safe.
